GP appointments are available from 8am until 11am and 2pm until 5pm. There is an on call GP every day from 9.30am until 6.30pm. The provider is also part of a federation of GP practices in the Sunderland area who work together to provide appointments with GPs , nurses or health care assistants outside of their normal working hours.
Sunderland GP Alliance runs five medical practices at The Galleries, Barmston , Pennywell, New Silksworth and South Hylton. We also run a number of other services that cover the whole city such as our Extended Access service that provides appointments on an evening and at weekends.

Overall the practice is rated as requires improvement. Staff understood and fulfilled their responsibilities to raise concerns, and report incidents and near misses.

Formed in 2015, Sunderland GP Alliance is an organisation owned by the GP Practices of Sunderland , and it exists to help GPs work collaboratively for the benefit of patients and staff. Thirty six of the city’s forty GP practices are members of the organisation, and together they cover over 95% of Sunderland’s .
From 1 April 2021, Barmston Medical Centre, Pennywell Medical Centre and The Galleries Health Centre will be known as Monument Surgeries. This is an exciting new chapter for our practices and an important step in our journey together as part of the wider ‘Monument Surgeries’ team.
